Objects in Context

Animation

2021

Objects in Contexts situates the set of pieces in a narrative that explore their architectural possibilities beyond arrangements. They are retrofitted to design a space that is dedicated for the deaf community. Such a context allows the objects to adapt an experiential program and form phenomenological qualities. Moreover, to accommodate for the deaf’s needs, the objects were morphed and reshaped to follow DeafSpace principles.

The project shows how these objects were morphed from being abstract shapes to real architectural proposals. The project is part of the development plan for Gallaudet University’s campus in Washington DC, which is the only institution in the world that is fully dedicated to the deaf and hard of hearing students. It’s a mixed-use complex that acts as a gateway for the university’s campus, and it connects the deaf community to the public in the surrounding areas.
